Laval, Canada (March 19, 2013) — Embrionix, manufacturer of the emSFP and Semtech Corporation (Nasdaq:SMTC), a leading supplier of analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, jointly announced the acquisition of the full line of Semtech video optical modules (optical SFP) by Embrionix.
”With the acquisition of Semtech’s video optical SFP line, Embrionix is now a one-stop shop for video SFP and advanced emSFP,” said Renaud Lavoie, CEO of Embrionix. Embrionix realized that the SFP video market is in rapid growth, and the synergy created by the acquisition will enable Embrionix to respond to increasing demand more effectively. Embrionix and Semtech have also agreed to work cooperatively for the next generation of emSFP. “By combining the knowledge and experience of both companies, future emSFP products will have superior performance, lower power consumption and a richer feature set,” said Don Shaver, Director of Marketing at Semtech.
Embrionix will continue to supply Semtech Video Optical Module (VOM) customers with existing products and will leverage the existing supply chain to minimize any impact resulting from the change of control of the Semtech VOM product line. ”This product line is well established and given Embrionix’s focus on advanced SFP and emSFP for Video, we will pursue the business as flawlessly as possible,” Lavoie added.
This deal creates a strong collaboration between Embrionix and Semtech and sets the foundation for ongoing collaboration on future products. “We are excited to formalize our relationship with Embrionix. We are confident that Embrionix will provide strong support to VOM customers and we look forward to working together on future emSFP products,” said Gary Beauchamp, SVP & GM of Semtech’s Gennum Product Group.
Semtech selected Embrionix because they are focused on the Broadcast Video market and are also focused on the development, sales, and marketing of SFP module solutions. As the pioneer in copper SFP solutions, Embrionix has demonstrated a deep market understanding and technical acumen to support these products and this market. “Embrionix is excited to acquire the Semtech Video Optical module line. As the only manufacturer focused on the video industry, these products complement our existing line and offer a complete portfolio to our customers,” added Lavoie.
Semtech will continue to be involved during a transition period to ensure the transaction is transparent for customers.
